BELMONT, Miss - Belmont Elementary School celebrated Johnny Appleseed’s birthday in grand style this week, with students dressing up, playing games, and enjoying delicious apple-themed treats. The festivities honored the legendary American folk hero, known for planting apple trees across the Midwest in the early 1800s and promoting conservation and kindness to animals.
The students fully embraced the spirit of the day by dressing in overalls, straw hats, and other pioneer-style attire reminiscent of Johnny Appleseed’s iconic look. Throughout the day, they participated in a variety of apple-themed activities. One of the highlights was bobbing for apples, which brought plenty of laughs and excitement as the kids tried to grab apples.
Classrooms were filled with the scent of fresh apples as students enjoyed many different kinds of apple snacks. Teachers took the opportunity to share the story of Johnny Appleseed, whose real name was John Chapman, explaining how he roamed the frontier planting apple seeds and leaving a legacy of environmental stewardship.
The celebration was not only fun but also educational, as students learned about American history and the importance of nature and agriculture.
