NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION

The Tishomingo County Board of Supervisors hereby provides for the special election for the office of the Tishomingo County Water District Board of Commissions “vacancy” pursuant to House Bill 1782 of the Mississippi Legislative Session of 2016 and having previously adopted a resolution by this Board providing for the election as required by said House Bill the Board hereby publishes this Notice of Election and Qualifications for Office of the position of Board of Commission for the Tishomingo County Water District.

The special election of the Tishomingo County Water District Board of Commissions “vacancy” shall be held on the first Tuesday in September which is found to be on the 3rd day of September 2024 from the hours of 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and ballots will be cast at the Tishomingo County Water District Office located at 117 East Eastport Street, Iuka, Mississippi 38852.

The Qualifications for the Office of Tishomingo County Water District Board Commissioner are that a candidate must be at least twenty-five (25) years of age; a candidate must be a water meter holder of the Tishomingo County Water District; a candidate must be a resident of the service boundaries where water service is presently being provided by the Tishomingo County Water District; and a candidate must not be precluded from being bonded in the sums and manner as required by Section 19-5-171(2) of the Mississippi Code of 1972 which requires each Commissioner, elected or appointed as a commissioner, before entering upon the discharge of the duties of the person’s office, shall be required to execute a bond payable to the State of Mississippi in the penal sum of not less than Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00) condition that the person will faithfully discharge the duties of the office. Each bond shall be approved by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors and filed with the Clerk.

Qualifying for the office of Board of Commission for the Tishomingo Water District shall begin on the first Monday in August 2024 and shall continue for twenty-one (21) days thereafter. An application to seek the office of the Commission for the Tishomingo County Water District may be obtained at the Tishomingo County Water District office located at 117 East Eastport Street, Iuka, Mississippi 38852 during normal business hours or at the Tishomingo County Circuit Clerk’s office located at 1008 Battleground Drive, Iuka, Mississippi. Said applications will be available on the first Monday in August 2016 during normal business hours for both offices referenced in this notice.

This Order of the Tishomingo County Board of Supervisors and Notice of Special Election shall be posted on the front doors of the Tishomingo County Courthouse and the Tishomingo County Water District; on the bulletin Board of the Tishomingo County Courthouse and shall run in a newspaper of general circulation within Tishomingo County, Mississippi for a period of three consecutive weeks with the date of last publication being twenty-one (21) days or more preceding the date of the Special Election specified in this Notice pursuant to House Bill 1782.
