The Community Asked, The City Came Through

IUKA, Miss - Members of the community having been asking for more things to do for kids in the community.

Take a ride to Mineral Springs Park and anyone can see improvements are in the works.

The City of Iuka Mayor and Board of Aldermen heard these requests and worked tirelessly to bring it to fruition. Along with Cook Coggin Engineering and city workers, a plan was made, bids were requested, and now the ground has been broken.

Iuka Mineral Springs Park will have a Splashpad funded through House Bill 1353.

“This is going to be a great addition for Iuka,” Vice Mayor Johnny Southward said. “It’s a great day for our children and grandchildren.”

Cook Coggin Engineering will be overseeing the project with prep work on the grounds to start before the end of the year by Buz Plaxico Dozer Service, then Moonshot Recreation will complete the installation.

“This is a great day for the City of Iuka, the kids, and our World-Famous Mineral Springs Park,” Mayor Kenny Carson said. “We are anticipating the Grand Opening to be around Memorial Day 2025.”

Families will no longer travel out of town in the summer for their children to have a splashpad on those hot summer days.

This addition to the park not only offers more for the families in the community, but by making improvements to areas in our city, it will bring in more money for local businesses.

“This is a project I’m thrilled to be a part of,” Alderwoman Nancy Stripling said. “Been dreaming of this splash pad for quite some time.”
